Project's Two essential characteristics:
1) Project has a beginning and an end.
2) Every project produces a unique product
The challenge of managing projects
1) Personnel: Project has challenge on the manpower resource control, the different number of personnel needed on each time frame, the total personnel control in the same working environment, and the skills of the project personnel.
2) Second challenge is the estimation, the assumption of the budget and schedule might be slant from the fact.
3) Authority, corporation authority usually defined by the on-going process, the authority of project management might end up the political issues.
4) Control, the budget control base on the on-going process and its existing organization structure. Easy to be out of control and hard to be recovered.
Project Management is industry-independent, project managers are not. Project managers require skills in three areas:
1) Project management: the basic discipline for project manager.
2) Business management: Communication, finance, motivation, and other business management skill are also required for project manager.
3) Technical: project manager needs to know the work to better lead the project.
The definition of project success
1) On time, some project are worthless if did not met the schedule and the efficiency also a goal of the project management.
2) On budget, without the budget control, the business might end up losing money and in another word the precisely budget control also demonstrate the efficient resource management.
3) High quality, meet the require product specification and reduce the rework which impact the schedule and budget.
